Arrive at the Windhoek International Airport. You will be transferred to your lovely accommodation.
Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast in Windhoek before departing for Sossusvlei. You'll travel over the breathtaking Eros Mountains and along the scenic roads leading southeast into the desert. Highlights of the journey include the Naukluft Mountains, Central Plateau, Remhoogte Pass, and tiny settlement of Solitaire.
You will stay in Sossusvlei for the next two nights where you will have time to explore the iconic towering sand dunes.
Sossusvlei is one of Namibia's most spectacular highlights and lies in the heart of the Namib Desert. It consists of a huge clay-pan enclosed by mighty sand dunes. Some reach a height of 300 metres and are of the highest in the world. Occasionally, after a heavy rainfall, the vlei fills with water. As the clay layers are fairly impervious to water, a turquoise lake remains for quite some time.
Another popular site in the area is Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge about 1km in length. At the foot of the gorge, which plunges down 30 to 40 metres, are pools that become replenished after good rains.
We recommend that you wake up early to climb the iconic sand dunes at sunrise, or if you prefer you can soar above this breathtaking landscape in a hot air balloon. Other activities you can enjoy include a nature drive to spot the desert-adapted wildlife, a dune walk or an eco-sensitive guided quad bike excursion, sand boarding and horse riding. In the evening you can enjoy a gin and tonic on a sundowner tour, or after dark you can join a star gazing excursion with a knowledgeable guide. These activities are for own account.
Drive back to Windhoek to catch an afternoon flight. Accommodation can be arranged in Windhoek at an additional fee.
